Terms of use

These terms govern use of the vwx.au and classbasics.com services operated by ClassBasics Pty Ltd (ACN 159 529 236), Victoria, Australia ("ClassBasics", "we", "us", "our"). Contact: admin@vwx.au. Revision 2 — effective 24 September 2026.

1. What we offer

(a) The free workbook library. Complete student workbooks for the Victorian Curriculum as downloadable PDFs, free to everyone. Every page carries the Classbasics attribution and a Creative Commons badge: the library is licensed CC BY-NC-ND 4.0 (Attribution–NonCommercial–NoDerivatives, International). You may freely copy and redistribute unaltered copies, with attribution, for non-commercial purposes — classroom printing and home use are exactly the intended uses. Commercial reuse, translations, adaptations or other derivative works need our permission (admin@vwx.au). Workbooks are living documents: we revise and reissue them as they are audited and improved (that is our right as licensor — the NoDerivatives term binds reusers, not us), and availability of any particular title may change.

(b) The paid self-marking service. Auto-marked practice questions mapped to the workbooks, accessed through a ClassBasics account. Priced at A$10 per student per 365 days — a one-time payment with no auto-renewal; access expires 365 days from purchase and may be renewed by repurchase. Promotional or beta passes (e.g. free access until a stated date) are governed by these same terms; we may vary or withdraw a free or promotional pass on reasonable notice (including by email to the purchaser), which never affects paid access you have purchased or your Australian Consumer Law guarantees.

2. Accounts

A purchase creates a purchaser account (email address and password). The email address is the only personal identity we hold for purchasers. Student accounts are pseudonymous: we do not ask for, store, or require student names, ages or dates of birth — a student account is an opaque username and password managed by its purchaser. You must keep credentials secure and are responsible for activity under your accounts.

3. Who may purchase

Passes are purchased by a parent, guardian or school on behalf of a student. Students aged 18 or over may purchase their own access.

4. Purchaser responsibility

The platform is deliberately open by default in both directions: any student may work at any curriculum level, whether ahead of or behind their school year — we believe gating learning does more harm than good. Where a purchaser wants limits, optional per-subject ceiling gating is purchaser-operated (it starts at the lowest level and the purchaser widens it deliberately). We do not classify content for sensitivity or provide educational-advice recommendations: judgements about which material suits a particular student, and supervision of the student's use, are the purchaser's responsibility. This allocation of responsibility is fundamental to how the service is designed and priced.

5. Fair use — one pass, one student

The A$10 price is only sustainable on the basis of honest single-student use. Each pass is licensed to one (1) student. Without limiting anything else in these terms, you must not:

Schools and groups: multi-student use requires a seat for each student. Group and school orders of any size — including invoice or purchase-order payment — are arranged via admin@vwx.au. (Online group-seat checkout is coming; this line becomes the fallback when it lands.)

Monitoring and enforcement. To enforce this clause we monitor usage signals — request rates, concurrency, IP patterns and usage shapes — for abuse prevention. Separately, the service records and analyses learning activity (answers, results, progress) because that is what makes self-marking, practice optimisation and progress reporting work — those analytics serve your learning and the improvement of the service, are described in the privacy policy, and are not used as general surveillance. Suspected abuse is handled on a ladder: we contact the purchaser first, and may then throttle, restrict, suspend, or — for serious or repeated abuse — terminate access without refund.

The free PDF library is deliberately outside these limits: it is open to all by design, under its CC BY-NC-ND 4.0 licence.

6. Prices, payment and tax

Prices are shown in Australian dollars and are one-time payments. Payments are processed by Stripe; your card details never touch our servers. ClassBasics Pty Ltd is not currently registered for GST, so no GST is charged on purchases. Where tax is legally required on a transaction — for example sales tax on purchases transacted in other currencies or jurisdictions — it is calculated by our payment processor and shown at checkout before you pay. If our tax status changes (including GST registration), this clause and checkout pricing will be updated accordingly.

7. Refunds and your consumer guarantees

Our services come with guarantees that cannot be excluded under the Australian Consumer Law. For a major failure you are entitled to a refund or compensation for reduced value; for other failures we will repair or re-supply the service. These guarantees override everything else in this clause.

14-day pro-rated refunds: if you request a refund within 14 days of purchase, we refund the unused portion of the pass, pro-rated on the 365-day access period remaining and never exceeding what you paid. Eligible refunds are processed automatically to the original payment method via the one-click link in your order email (or by contacting admin@vwx.au), and access ends when the refund is made. A pass showing activity beyond what a single student would generate goes to manual review instead of automatic refund (see the fair-use clause) — your consumer guarantees are unaffected either way. Beyond the 14-day window, and outside your consumer guarantees, digital access is not refundable once used.

8. Access period and expiry

Access runs 365 days from purchase (or until the stated end date of a promotional pass) and then ends automatically. Nothing renews or charges automatically. Content added to the service during your access period is included at no extra cost.

9. Acceptable use

You must not use the service for any unlawful purpose; infringe anyone's rights; upload malicious code; interfere with or disrupt the service or its infrastructure; impersonate any person; or attempt unauthorised access to any account or system.

10. Intellectual property

The workbook PDFs are © ClassBasics Pty Ltd, licensed to the public under Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivatives 4.0 International (CC BY-NC-ND 4.0) as marked on every page. The platform, question banks, software, branding and all other materials are our intellectual property and are not under the CC licence; other than the free PDFs and your licensed use of the service, no rights are granted.

11. Suspension and termination

We may suspend or terminate access for breach of these terms (see clause 5's enforcement ladder for fair-use breaches). You may stop using the service and request account deletion at any time (see the privacy policy for what deletion involves).

12. Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, lost profits or lost data arising from use of the service; our aggregate liability is limited to the fees you paid us in the 12 months before the claim. Nothing in these terms excludes or limits any right or guarantee that cannot lawfully be excluded, including under the Australian Consumer Law.

13. Complaints and contact

Questions, complaints, deletion requests and unsubscribe requests all go to admin@vwx.au — and every service email also carries one-click signed links for refunds, unsubscribing, deletion requests and complaints: click, confirm, done. One mechanism for all of them, by design. Our privacy practices are described in the privacy policy.

14. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms; the revision date above will change and material changes will be announced where users will reasonably see them. Continued use after a change constitutes acceptance.

15. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of Victoria, Australia, and the parties submit to its courts.
